The Diplomat happened out of the blue. It was a ‘cold call’ from producer Sally Browning who rang me one day when I was having lunch at SBS. I was working at SBS Independent as a part time commissioning editor, a job I got not long after completing Billal. Sally asked me ‘would I be interested in directing a film about Jose Ramos-Horta’.
